The exams are finally over!! But for some of you, there are still a few weeks of school left! What are some of your favorite things to do with your students during this time?
I've done a project based on the VH1 video show Pop-up Videos. Instead, we do "Pop-up Poetry." Students choose a significant literary poem and create a slide presentation, "popping-up" literary elements, facts about the poet, and non sequitur items inspired by the diction or imagery of the poem. It's been really fun to share these with the rest of the class, and it gives the students a chance to show their creativity and literary understanding of a poem of their choosing.
I love this idea Nancy Gaines!! What are some of your favorite poems students have chosen? Do you give them a list or ask them to do their own research?
We have two poetry anthologies that we use to study throughout the year, and most students use those. Some of the most memorable ones have been done with Emily Dickinson's work. But I usually get everything from Keats to Frost to Rich. It's so varied. In the eight years I have done this project, I don't think I've had a duplicate poem used.
